Breathing life into a redundant building.
What was once a 1960s breeze block infill was completely reconfigured, keeping the ground floor retail space and adding two contemporary living spaces above. Key to this project’s success was achieving planning permission both to add an extra floor and extend to the rear. This provided space for a 1-bedroom flat on the first floor and a spectacularly bright 2-bed maisonette
with a glass ceiling above the staircase at the top. While there were some logistical challenges to overcome, such as operating in a tight space next to a listed building on a busy main road, I was delighted with the end result. Finishing touches such as underfloor heating, carefully-planned and well-executed inbuilt storage, and integrated appliances ensured the flats were under offer within
2 weeks of going to market. The shop soon followed suit.
